SIGNED: Midsummer School By Yaxley, David

Minimum Donation €11.00

A farcical romp through the world of the adult education residential course. There they were, the assembled intelligentsia of Borshire, the Director of Studies, Dr Newton Subcourse, Dr Joseph Bawdeswell (soon to be known as ‘Slimy Jo’), Cyril Thrigby, Mrs Ada Mulbarton, Stan Hoe, Hester Catton, the predatory Iris Overy, Tony Saham, and the rest, all shepherded by the appalling Mrs Gorlestone, the dean’s daughter. And there was the magnificent Great Mardle Hall where they expected to enjoy a positive feast of culture,
Borshire History and the Romantic Poets. There also were the unfortunate and accident-prone tutors, Roger Barton-Bendish and William Hautbois, little suspecting the pitfalls that awaited them, the defaulting lecturers, the bloody-minded coach-driver and the relentless watchfulness of Mrs Gorlestone for any kind of sexual impropriety. David Yaxley was born at Mundesley and educated at the Paston Grammar School. He has a history degree from University College London and has lectured for many years on Norfolk history, buildings, landscape, gardens and art. He was, until 1991, Tutor-Organiser for the Workers’ Educational
Association in Norfolk. He has published ‘Portrait of Norfolk’, ‘The Prior’s Manor-houses’ and ‘The Houghton Survey, 1800. He is a water-colourist and a keen cricketer and is married with two sons
