SIGNED: Grace Under Malta By Sybil Dobbie

Minimum Donation €130.00

SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. Sybil Dobbie worked with her father in Malta for two years, 1940-2, and shared the martyrdom of the island under siege. Her special position gave her the opportunity to mingle with all kinds and classes, with whom she was intimately concerned during their trial. With the displacement of the Italian air force by the Luftwaffe, Malta became the target for incessant and vicious air attacks. The people went underground into their impregnable rock shelters – and carried on. For a time, Malta had no fighter protection, and was dependent upon the intrepid garrison. As the war intensified supplies of food and other essentials ran short; and the islanders tightened their belts and carried on and welcomed royally the daring merchantmen and men of the Navy who so gallantly fought and won through to Malta. Grace Under Malta is a very human story, of terrible trials, endured by simple and often bewildered people, mitigated by their own high spirit and indomitability. It was not all sadness and misery in Malta during the siege, and Miss Dobbie sees a finer future for the people of Malta arising out of their agony. Hardcover. Published by Lindsay-Drummond 1943
