Extracted from the Preface: It seems to be, for me, one of the quirks of fate – although I prefer the word Providence – that I have not managed to keep away from the MALTA YEAR Book for very long. After having almost completed the 1968 edition I handed over to BROTHER RALPH who valiantly held the fort until BROTHER EDMUND arrived in September 1968 to take full responsibility. It was my privilege to write the foreword to BROTHER EDMUND’s first effort and I then wished him every success during his period of occupancy of the editorial chair. He did a splendid job and the two editions issued by him are proof of his determination, his meticulous attention to detail and his thoroughness. The wheel has now come full circle and I am pleased to issue this 1971 edition which, again ,is the result of team work and much help received from many quarters. Co-operation and assistance have, indeed, been given on a large scale and I wish to express my gratitude to all who have helped in ways both small and large. As always, the printers have been patient as well as efficient and I am glad to be working once more in this friendly atmosphere which pervades the presses of Messrs. Giov. MUSCAT & Co. LTD. The Managing Director Mr. A.H. DE DEDOMENICO is still kindness itself, always acceding to my requests and suggestions. I do miss Mr. C. MAGRI, chief linotype operator during the twelve years of my previous editorship; he has now retired and I would like here to express my gratitude to him for all his help in the past. His post has been very ably filled by a younger man, Mr. FRANCIS GALEA, and I am delighted to find that we have been able to work so well together
