FIRST EDITION: To The One I Love Best By Ludwig Bemelmans

Minimum Donation €209.00

Ludwig Bemelmans was an Austrian author, an internationally known gourmand, and a writer and illustrator of children’s books. He is most noted today for his Madeline books, six of which were published from 1939-1961. A seventh was discovered after his death and published posthumously in 1999. The story is based on Bemelmans’ friendship with the prominent socialite and one of the first women interior designers, Elsie de Wolfe (also known as Lady Mendl). It is a remarkable record of a relationship in a very particular era in Los Angeles, New York and parts of Europe
