Description

Bound in blue cloth with gilt titling and decoration to the front board and spine. Contents leaning. Both front and rear hinges are cracked but still attached. An (unsuccesful) attempt to repair the front hinge with tape is evident. Corners are bumped and there is shelfwear and scuffing. In some places the board has been exposed where the cloth has come away, mainly in the spine area and corners. Slight crushing to top and bottom of the spine. Some deckle edging, particularly to the bottom edge. Original owner has signed their name in ink on the top of the firt page and dated 1932. A picture of Count Lyoff Nikolaievich Tolstoi appears to have been pasted to the back of the frontispiece – this was obviously a book which meant a great deal to someone as it is evident that this is a well read and much loved possession. There are a number monochrome illustrations throughout the volume. Published by Walter Scott – undated but estimated 1910
