Description
This card is one of a series depicting the wildlife art of Don Heywood, a distinguished British portrait painter who has executed numerous portrait commissions, his most significant achievement being a life-size portrait of H.M Queen Elzabeth II, which was completed in 1999. Other distinguished sitters have included King Goodwill Zwelithini, ka BhekuZulu, King of the Zulus. Don’s works have been exhibited at many galleries, including the Royal Academy, London and Le Grand Palais Champs Elysees, Paris. In 2000, Don produced a widely acclaimed limited edition Endangered Species Collection for the Smithsonian Institution. This collection represents a new pinnacle in artistic achievement and serves to stimulate public support for the Smithsonian’s effort on behalf of the conservation of endangered species. In the words of the artist ‘I have a passion for conservation but also want to look at transience, the reality of things fading. Certain people use animal parts for aphrodisiacs or commercial clothing……. these animals are born beautiful and that’s the only bad thing they’ve done.’ Times of Malta December 2011.
