Description

The late Janet Quintrell Treloar (1940 – 2019), who became a huge fan of Malta, was Senior Vice President of The Royal Society Of Watercolours for 7 years, taking part in many successful art exhibitions in London. Possibly more exciting, in terms of opportunities, Janet was also for many years a member of the Demarco European Art Foundation, which brought her and other members to Malta in 1999, to co-ordinate with the University of Malta in a joint art project, culminating in a highly successful exhibition at St James’ Cavalier. She revisited Malta in 2011, completing many paintings of the harbours and one of Filfla. In November 2013 the RWS organised an exhibition in the Auberge d’Italie in Valletta and in November 2013 she generously donated three painting for auction at the Palazzo Parisio fundraising event on behalf of Save The Valletta Skyline and all found homes in Malta. Janet found a real and deep sense of connection with Malta, its history, people and landscapes, especially the field patterns, those tiny shapes squeezed into the geology. It was not unlike those of her own home landscape, the small iron-age fields of West Cornwall, also of course with their accompanying ancient stone monuments – all connecting her historically with the Mediterranean. Janet took huge pleasure at just being in Malta, contributing to a cause very close to her heart – one which is central to the story of Christendom and one in which Malta has played such an heroic and central role. Janet Quintrell Treloar’s work is in private collections world-wide
