This is such a little gem!. The Stratton brand is well known for precision engineering and patented designs that stand the test of time, even more than half a century later. The Stratton brand legacy of highly inventive designs, that are unique to it, all came together in this model to make it both greatly appealing and reliable. The original black felt pouch, sifter and signed puff are clean and free of powder residue. Even the original presentation box is in remarkably good condition. The little puff has the ‘Compact-in-Hand’ logo in gilt and ‘Stratton Made In England’. The ‘Compact-in-Hand’ logo indicates that this vintage vanity is fitted with the Stratton patented automatic opening inner lid. Tilt the mirror lid back slightly to activate the opening mechanism and the inner lid opens. This was invented to prevent ladies from damaging their nails. The 1959 Stratton advertisement describes this model as ‘Stratton Photo Compact in gilt hand engine turned design. Compact fitted with self opening inner lid. 29/6 d’. The underside of the inner lid is satinized and the base is decorated with a fine spiral. The whole item has the feel of a special gift and would make an ideal love token.
