The long battle for Malta began in June 1940 with the Italian declaration of war on the Allies and the decision of the Axis powers to subdue the island in order to control the Mediterranean. This work provides a detailed day-by-day account of the air battles over land and sea until the end of 1941. From the private library of John Tipton and signed by him above his bookplate to the front free end paper ‘John Tipton 1987’. John Tipton joined 109 Squadron in June 1943 and went on to complete 70 operations with the squadron through to 1945. He also completed 34 Operations with 40 Squadron in 1941.42 operation from RAF Wyton and Malta. There is also a dedication to John Tipton by the three authors to the half-title page ‘ John Tipton, with our grateful thanks – Christopher Shores, Brian Cull and Nicola Malizia’

First Edition hard back binding in publisher’s original black cloth covers, gilt title and author lettering to the spine. 8vo. 9.5” x 6.25”. Contains 457 printed pages of text with archive monochrome photographs throughout, double page maps. Fine condition book in dust wrapper which has been laminated around the book and is sun faded down the spine. Loosely inserted is a signed letter referring to the raids on Malta, colour postcard of St Paul’s Bay, Malta and two other colour photographs. Donated and valued by an accredited book seller.
