At midnight on July 1st 1997 Hong Kong reverted back to Chinese rule, in a ceremony attended by Chinese President Jiang Zemin, His Royal Highness Prince Charles, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
