Derek writes ‘All my work is based and influenced by Nature, even my ‘Abstract’ work is my emotional response to a place and time. I try to capture the ‘Sprit of the Place’ and particularly I want to convey the Peace, Calm and Tranquillity I experience. My work is decorative and colourful and I want to make people feel happy. I love colour and am not afraid to use it and living part of the time and having a studio in Cyprus I have sunshine and colour a plenty!’ His recent Abstract and Modernist paintings have been well received and his ‘Balanced Tension 2’ was exhibited at the Biennale Larnaca 2018
