Description
The history of signet rings: For generations men wore signet rings engraved with a family crest which was impressed into a blob of hot wax to seal important documents. As evidenced in portraits, men chose to wear their signet (or seal ring) on any number of fingers, but over the past century, the traditional place for a signet ring has become the little finger of the non-dominant hand. Therefore, if you’re right handed, the ring goes on the left hand and vice versa. Although originally intended to prove identity and worn by heads of families or clans, in the mid 20th century, women began to adopt the custom and the rings no longer have to provide a crest and can show initials, a special talisman or simply something to bring happy thoughts when seen by the wearer
