Mediaeval Yorkshire: Memorable Invasions, Battles, Revolts, Conspiracies And Military Achievements Recorded In The Annals Of Yorkshire By Edward Lamplough

Extract from the preface: “The following pages have been written with the hope of inducing a deeper interest in the events of Yorkshire History, rather than with the intention of demonstrating their influence upon the National History ; although it may, perhaps, be conceded that the character of the people, and the position of the province, would be sufficient reasons to justify such an attempt, however strenuously it may be debated whether the influence exerted has tended to the real interests of the nation, or not. Nevertheless, in submitting these few unpretentious pages to the public, the writer indulges the hope that some indication of the importance of County History and of the influence which it has exerted upon the History of the Nation, is, if somewhat faintly, at all events, clearly manifested.” Bound in blue cloth with gilt titling to the front board and spine, together with a decorative black border. No dustjacket. Boards have unusual bevelled edges which was more common around the late 19th century. There is an ex-libris label bearing the name of the original owner on the inside front cover. Some light foxing to the endpapers and the first few pages, and light tanning to edges and pages, although far less that would normally be seen in a book of this age. Crack in spine between pages 118 and 119 though not very deep. Top edge is tinted in a silvery grey. Hardcover. Published by Hamilton, Adams & Co., Hull 1884
