Peter Brotherton Spurrier (1942 – 2005) Portcullis Pursuivant of Arms in Ordinary is a junior officer of arms at the College of Arms in London. First edition. Hardback binding in publisher’s original faux burgundy red leather covers, gilt title lettering to the spine and to the front cover. 4 to 11 VP x 8’A”. Hand written Limited Edition number 418. Signed by Lord Lewin to the limitation page. During a long period of service in the Ashanti Lord Lewin took part in the Arctic Convoys, and having been promoted to lieutenant on 1 July 1942, he took part in Operation Pedestal to relieve Malta in August 1942 and then the allied landings in North Africa in November 1942 before returning to the Arctic Convoys again and finally taking part in the allied landings in Normandy in June 1944. Also signed ‘Peter Spurrier – Portcullis’ to the title page. Peter Spurrier was an officer of arms at the College of Arms in London. He was appointed Portcullis Pursuivant of Arms in Ordinary in 1981 and York Herald of Arms in Ordinary in 1992. He retired from the College of Arms in May 1993. Contains 154 printed pages of text with two maps and archive monochrome photographs throughout. Small tape shadows to the end papers where the book was wrapped in brown paper to protect it, now removed. In very near Fine condition, no dust wrapper as issued.
