Elizabeth And Leicester By Milton Waldman

Minimum Donation €8.00

Mr. Milton Waldman is the first modern historian to turn the spotlight on that extraordinary character Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, favourite and reputed lover of the Virgin Queen. Leicester’s career was an amazing one. His first wife was the famous Amy Robsart whose death in strange circumstances led to a rumour that she was murdered at Leicester’s instigation.
He continued as Elizabeth’s favourite; she even suggested him as a husband for Mary, Queen of Scots. He eventually married Lady Sheffield and subsequently and bigamously the Countess of Essex. He commanded the forces assembled at Tilbury against the Armada, and died (rumour says he was poisoned) in the same year, 1588. A colourful account of a fascinating personality and period on which the author throws much new light
