Disraeli played a central role in the creation of the modern Conservative Party, defining its policies and its broad outreach. Disraeil’s efforts made the Conservative Party that most identified with the glory and power of the British Empire, and was the only British prime minister to have been of Jewish birth.

Pre-owned. Hardcover in red cloth with gilt text. Spine badly sun bleached. No dust jacket. Frontispiece with the image of a young Disraeli and a second plate with Disraeli as an older man between pages 312 and 313. Deckle edging and some tanning to edges. The number ‘899’ is handwritten on the front board in what looks like chalk, and this is somewhat faded. Bumping to corners. Some inscribing on sceond and third pages in dark pencil – what seems to be the name of another book by the same author, and the name of the original owner.
