Antique Turned And Carved Coquilla Nut ‘Acorn’ Nutmeg Grater – Circa Late 18th / Early 19th Century

Stylised Acorn form, internal steel grater and turned bone screw thread ring. Made both in Coquilla Nut (from a Brazilian palm) and Mulberry wood, such nutmeg graters were intended to be portable, enabling the user to flavour both wine, spirits and food. The inner bone screw has split and there is an old and tiny nick to the finial (as shown in images), but otherwise in great condition. A lovely piece of treen L:7.5 x D:4.25cm
